Scope and Contents note

The Anna Stafford Henriques collection is comprised of three short letters, one handwritten invitation, and one photograph. Professor Henriques was a Member of the Institute for Advanced Study's School of Mathematics from 1933-1935. Two of the letters are correspondence from Oswald Veblen, founding Faculty member of the Institute's School of Mathematics, on the topic of tuition. The final letter from Anne Crawford Flexner, wife of founding Institute Director Abraham Flexner, invites the then Miss Stafford and another of the first members of the Institute, Mabel Schmeiser Barnes, to lunch with her. There is also a handwritten invitation to the School of Mathematics dance held at the home of James Alexander, who was also on the Faculty of the School of Mathematics. The photograph, an informal portrait of Henriques, bears a handwritten note on the back indicating that it was taken immediately before she went to that dance.
