Offprints held by the Historical Studies-Social Science Library

The Library holds a large number of offprints stored in file cabinets. For the most part these offprints were given to the the following individuals by their colleagues. Please contact us if you have questions about this collection.

Andrew Alföldi was a faculty member in the School of Historical Studies from 1955 until 1965 and professor emeritus from 1965 until 1981.  His offprint collection contains items pertaining to ancient history, Roman history, and archaeology, It is quite extensive, taking up 9 file cabinets.

Marshall Clagett was a faculty member in  the School of Historical Studies from 1964 until 1986 and professor emeritus from 1986 until 2005. His offprint collection, housed in three cabinets, contains materials primarily focused on ancient and medieval science, as well as history of mathematics.

Patricia Crone was a faculty member in the School of Historical Studies from 1997 until her retirement in 2014. Her collection reflects her interest in the early history of Islam and the history of the Near East. The collection is still being processed, so far there are multiple file cabinets holding her offprint collection.

Felix Gilbert was a faculty member in the School of Historical Studies from 1962 until 1975 and professor emeritus from 1975 until 1991. His offprint collection, housed in three file cabinets, is primarily focused on Renaissance history as well as European and American history.

Kurt Gödel was affiliated with the Institute from 1933 until 1978, he was a faculty member in the School of Mathematics from 1953 until 1976 and professor emeritus from 1976 until 1978. The Institute holds a partial collection of his offprints housed in three cabinets, the remainder of his collection was deposited with Princeton University Library. Godel’s offprints primarily concern mathematics and logic.

Robert B.C. Huygens had been a Member of the School of Historical Studies 1986-1987. His collection contains offprints pertaining to Medieval Latin texts and history.

Ernst Kantorowicz was a faculty member in the School of Historical Studies from 1951-1963. His offprint collection takes up two file cabinets and is primarily focused on Medieval history and studies.

Walther Kirchner was a Member of the School of Historical Studies from 1955-1956. His offprint collection contains items on Russian and Baltic history and economics. It is contained in one file cabinet.

Elias Avery Lowe was a faculty member in the School of Historical Studies from 1936 until 1945 and professor emeritus from 1945-1969. His offprint collection contains materials on Latin  and paleographic studies. It is contained in one file cabinet.

Millard Meiss was a faculty member in the School of Historical Studies from 1958-1974 and professor emeritus from 1974-1975. His offprint collection contains offprints primarily on art history, and occupies three file cabinets.

Otto Neugebauer was affiliated as a Member with the Institute from 1945-1990, he held Memberships, with the School of Mathematics, School of Natural Sciences, and the School of Historical Studies, sometimes jointly. Neugebauer worked primarily on ancient astronomy and the history of exact science in antiquity. His offprint collection takes up one file drawer.

Erwin Panofsky was a faculty member in the School of Historical Studies from 1935-1962 and professor emeritus from 1962-1968. His offprint collection focuses primarily on Art History and occupies four file cabinets.

Kenneth Setton was a faculty member in the School of Historical Studies from  1968-1984 and professor emeritus from 1984-1995. His offprint collection, primarily in medieval and Renaissance history, occupies two file cabinetss.

Homer Thompson was a faculty member in the School of Historical Studies from 1947-1977, professor emeritus from 1977-2000. His collection of offprints take up three file cabinets and are primarily focused on Greek archaeology and history.

Harry Woolf was Director of the Institute from 1976 until1987 and Professor-at-Large from 1987-2003. His offprint collection is mostly focused on the history of science.
